There is no second system to secure, no credentials to hand out, no network path to argue about in a security review — the query runs where the data already is, under the permissions your warehouse already enforces. That is a real and durable advantage, and for a company whose data genuinely all lives in one place it may be the whole answer.
Both are also improving quickly, and both are included in a platform you are already paying for, which is a hard thing to compete with on price.

Which one you should choose
Choose Cortex / Genie when…
- All of your data genuinely is in Snowflake or Databricks, and you expect that to stay true.
- Your security review is easier if nothing new touches the warehouse.
- Only your data team is asking questions, and they are comfortable in English.

- The finance team’s real numbers are in spreadsheets that will never be loaded into the warehouse.
