ChatGPT and Claude vs Jawab

This is the honest one: the general assistants are very good at the thinking. The argument is not about the model — Jawab runs on Claude. It is about what the model is allowed to see, remember and prove.

What the general assistants are genuinely good at

They are excellent analysts. Given a clean spreadsheet, they will reason about it better than most dashboards will, explain the reasoning clearly, and follow you down a line of questioning as well as a colleague would. Anyone claiming otherwise has not used them properly, and we are not going to claim it — Jawab is built on Claude, and the quality of that model is the reason the product works at all.

They are also free or nearly free, already installed, and require no procurement conversation. For a one-off question about a file on your laptop, opening ChatGPT is the right answer and we would tell you so.

Reads your live dataA read-only query against the real source, at the moment you askWhatever was exported and pasted in — already out of date, and now outside your governance
Knows how your company defines its termsA shared glossary and a library of verified answers. Define "revenue means shipped, not booked" once and every future question inherits it, in every language.Per-person memory at best. What one colleague teaches it, nobody else gets.
Traces back to something checkableThe SQL on screen, the rows it returned, and the assumptions it madeA confident paragraph, with nothing to check it against
Refuses when the data does not answerSays the data does not cover it. Document answers are quoted to the page or not given. Will often reason its way to a plausible answer instead
On the recordWho asked what, the exact SQL, the row count — exportable with an integrity hashNo query to record
Your data governancePer-source access control, privacy modes, PII column tagging, and a metadata-only mode where no values ever reach the modelWhoever pastes the export decides what leaves the company

Which one you should choose

Choose ChatGPT / Claude when…

  • The question is a one-off, the data is a file you already have, and nobody will need to re-derive the answer next quarter.
  • You are exploring, thinking out loud, or writing something — the things a general assistant is genuinely best at.

Choose Jawab when…

  • The same questions get asked every month and the answers have to agree with each other.
  • More than one person needs to ask, and what one of them teaches it should benefit everyone.
  • Somebody will be asked to justify the number in a board pack, an audit or a bank covenant.
  • Exporting the data to ask about it is itself the problem — because of its size, its sensitivity, or where it is allowed to go.

Four questions that decide it

  • Can your team ask it questions in Arabic — officially supported, not best-effort?
  • What happens when the answer lives in a contract rather than a table?
  • What does a company without a data warehouse do?
  • Can it run inside your own country’s borders?
